Alcaston Gallery is honoured to present significant new paintings by the esteemed Anmatyerre artist, Barbara Mbitjana Moore.
Rendered in sweeping arcs of vibrant colour Moore’s paintings are profoundly personal, uniting the Central Desert landscapes that define her. Meticulously recalled from memory, Moore paints the undulating landforms of Anmatyerre Country near Nturiya, north of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, the Country of her birth. Her vivid palette stems from the lands around Amata in South Australia, the Country in which she lives, paints, and where she has raised her children and grandchildren.
Moore is frequently acknowledged in major national touring exhibitions and in national prizes including three times at the Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Prize at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory where she is currently a finalist for the sixth time including winning the prestigious General Painting Prize in 2012. In 2020 Moore was awarded an Australia Council Residency at the Kluge-Ruhe Museum in Charlottesville USA.
Moore’s paintings feature in many prominent public and private collections in Australia and internationally.
Barbara Mbitjana Moore’s paintings will be on exhibition at the Alcaston Gallery Exhibition Space from 18 October – 3 November 2023.
