Tim Meakins is an Artist and Designer born and working in Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia. Working across sculpture, painting, print, animation and publishing, he employs a visual grammar drawn from the history (and present) of computer graphics/operating systems and cartoons to create intensely energetic propositions around the ever-mutating forms, limits, plasticity, optical register and possibilities of digital and analogue states-of-being. Known for his work which draws from his parallel graphic design practice and his curiosity surrounding gym culture. Sculptures often consist of cartoonish manifestations on strength and power, where figures are shown in demonstrative poses, flexing and lifting heavy objects.
Solo exhibitions include Muscle Beach (AGWA - The Art Gallery of WA, Perth, 2021/22), Liftlore (Folklore) (Goolagatup Heathcote, Perth, 2023), Pump Iron ‘Til You Are Iron (Tributary Projects, Canberra, 2021) and Sports Dreams (Cheap Tongue, Fremantle 2023).
