Designwork 08 is Sophie Gannon Gallery’s 8th annual exhibition of works by some of Australia’s best designers. This year’s exhibition features new work by represented designers Elliat Rich and Danielle Brustman.
Elliat Rich's 'The Gradients; first appearance' is the first of an ongoing exploration with new material and technique, to form a series of jewellery boxes. The Gradients form part of a broader philosophical framework that uses mythology as both critique of the modern West and propositions for new ways of understanding and relating to our planet. This endeavour, Designing Mythology, uses abstractions of scientific understandings told through story and artefacts.
'Split' by Danielle Brustman is a collection of sculptural wall mirrors derived from a series of personal symbols and recurring design patterns that have been abstracted and halved. Some parts are missing, others fit together. The project talks to broken things, bust ups and altered reunions.
