Belinda Wiltshire presents a debut series of sculptural ceramic works reflecting on an ever-flowing lineage of influence and the creative impulse to act and re-act. Audiences are invited to find harmonious reverberations of shape and symmetry within Wiltshire’s wheel thrown ceramic works, alongside a purposeful human presence in imperfections and nuances which emerge directly from the artist’s hand.
“I feel at home in my studio, not lonely but alone. Often though, creating art can feel like an act of narcissism, and I increasingly question why I am doing what I’m doing. I do take some comfort in knowing most artists probably feel this way from time to time. Until recently I didn’t know the story of Narcissus and Echo or how Echo was condemned to only repeat the words last spoken to her. In the myth her affliction is intended as a punishment, but relating to this as an artist, this state of constantly observing, processing, then reflecting out again into the world, is most definitely a feeling of solace.”
Every form is an echo.
All of art is an echo.
Every thought is an echo.
All the world is an echo.
An opening event will be held on the evening of Friday 1 December 2023 6–8pm.
