Opening our 2024 program, ‘Flying Out (Firecracker)’ takes its name from the title of Georgia Spain’s painting, which was shown at Ngununggula Southern Highlands Regional Gallery in Once More With Feeling in 2023. Explains Georgia: ‘The title came to me as I was thinking about the feeling of breaking free or flying out of one’s comfort zone and wanting to capture that sense of explosive and exuberant energy that occasionally overcomes me whilst painting. The firecracker part also references the Yellow Magic Orchestra song ‘Firecracker’, which is something I listen to in the studio that fires me up!’
