form / function is a showcase of recent acquisitions to MAMA’s collection. The acquisition of works by Hany Armanious, Tim Silver, Bonita Bub and Anna Kristensen, build on contemporary artworks currently held within the Collection by these Australian artists.
While there is no single theme forming this presentation of artworks, moments of connection can be found between the sculptural casting elements found in Hany Armanious’ Mystery of the Plinth and photographic series by Tim Silver depicting self-portraits in the form of classic busts ruptured by bread dough. While simultaneously, Anna Kristensen and Bonita Bub transform familiar materials or objects such as a brick wall or a museum stool, into new decorative and dysfunctional forms.
MAMA relies on the generous support of donors and artists to maintain and grow our permanent collection. These recent acquisitions were gifted to MAMA through the Australian Government’s Cultural Gift Program and by direct donation from the artist.
