GRAVES is a multi-material installation that features decomposing postcard messages of apology to the Earth. They are disingenuous words: can the Earth ever offer its forgiveness? (With thanks to The CORRIDOR Project, NSW.)
GRAVES is a multi-material installation that explores our current human-induced environmental and ecological challenges. It marks a haunted knowing that humans have plundered and imperilled the land with little long-term consideration of their impact. With this in mind, GRAVES involved the artist writing postcard messages of apology to the Earth on postcards, and then burying them. The apologies, however, are blithely written with trite and disingenuous words, encapsulating the prevailing human attitude that wrongs can be made right via a simple apology. If the apologies are not genuine and heartfelt, then can the Earth ever offer its forgiveness? (With thanks to The CORRIDOR Project, NSW.)
