Lachlan Stonehouse, is an artist working across painting, drawing, and collage. For his exhibition “Grid Variations,” he employs oil on canvas adhered to wood to craft a woven canvas construction evoking a lattice effect. Within this material grid he makes deliberate incisions and selectively removes squares; an interplay of materiality results in an irregular repetition, where the juxtaposition of similarities and differences guide a methodical approach to the work. By exploring themes of recurrence, pattern making, and the controlled alteration of surface, Stonehouse invites viewers to contemplate paradoxical transformations within his artistic process.
