๐โ๐ข ๐ ๐ฝ๐๐ก๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง confronts dismissive language surrounding chronic health issues through a darkly humorous lens. Ethically sourced letters, including those from medical professionals, are redacted, leaving traces of the original context and exposing delegitimising wording. The patient experience is laid bare, revealing subjective judgments within professional objectivity. The exhibition features Hamerโs first series of silkscreen prints and monoprints crafted from redacted letters and medical scans, alongside five new hand stitched works, exploring gendered language, access, and erasure.
This timely exhibition engages with current conversations centred on dismissive attitudes towards undiagnosed chronic health issues and gendered medical bias, the subject of the Victorian Governmentโs recently announced Inquiry into Womenโs Pain.
