Passage is excited to invite you to the opening of Melbourne based artist duo Wona Bae and Charlie Lawler's new exhibition Late next Friday, September 29th, between 6PM - 8PM.
Wona Bae and Charlie Lawler will install a larger than life towering seed in the gallery, challenging the viewer to navigate their way around the work and the climate change data rooted inside.
Late extols the survival strategy plants use called serotiny where they release their seeds later in the season after fires. This allows the plants to propagate after the fire's clearance of competitor plants from the environment.
Imbedded within Bae and Lawler's towering serotinous seed sculpture is climate data relating to the black summer Australian bushfires, serving as a timely reminder of how these natural systems, which have slowly adapted over millennia, stand in stark contrast to the ongoing human-induced climate emergency and the effects of decades of stalled action on climate change.
