In this four-part lecture series lead by Claudia Chan Shaw, explore the intriguing origins, influences and key figures of art nouveau, including the lives and work of innovative artist Alphonse Mucha, French architect and designer Hector Guimard and Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi.
Popular from 1890 to 1910, art nouveau was a ‘new art’ for the coming century, an elegant decorative style that influenced architecture, fine art, illustration and advertising as well as the design of objects such as jewellery, glassware and furniture. While a rather short-lived movement, art nouveau has left a lasting impression on design.
