Elizabeth Rankin’s abiding concern as an artist has been investigating uncanny true crime tales that emerge from Australian society. Broadly speaking, Rankin’s work fits within the genre of noir. The new series Lovers and Lunatics explores ideas of the femme fatale within noir and also considers the follies and ideals of love. This shift in emphasis arose from a reflection on what was to be valued during the lockdown periods of Covid.
