The notion of the ‘home’ revolves around the distinctive grounding of place in which the artist is bound by, a self-reflective amalgam of individual identity, personal relationships, experiential events and the navigation of nature. Works from the artists vary from earnest familial expressions to distortions of biotic landscapes - what is certain is that all artists interrogate an intrinsic sense of place that connects both the self and the artist as one. The exhibition gains its name from Chantal Akerman’s 1977 film of which the director expresses the affinity of home identity with a radical expression of filmmaking, similarly, the artists of our News from Home contemplate their idea of the self; existing throughout and embedded within place.
