Lennox St. Gallery is pleased to present Sinuous, an exhibition of recent paintings and sculpture by Dagmar Cyrulla, Jill Kempson, Andrew McIlroy, and Marcus Wills. The exhibition brings together the distinctive styles and thematic explorations within the works of each artist, creating a cohesive yet diverse visual experience. Meditating between the fleeting essence of beauty and the permanence of nature, Jill Kempson’s still life paintings transcend the ordinary and serve as poignant moments of contemplation. The colour palette of the recent works illustrates the artist’s ability to evoke emotion through nuanced hues. Subtle variations of earthy tones and gentle pastels dominate, creating a harmonious interplay that resonates with tranquillity. Andrew McIlroy’s recent explorations within the realm of landscape painting reveal a profound engagement with the essence of nature. Departing from representational accuracy, he delves into the emotional resonance of landscapes, distilling their core elements into a symphony of brushstrokes and textures. By stripping away the minutiae of realism and enhancing spatial ambiguities, McIlroy encourages a personal interpretation of the depicted environments. Marcus Wills’s expertise in portraiture and studies of the male and female nude adds a profound element to the present exhibition. His portraits capture the essence of personality and emotion, while his exploration of the human form celebrates the diversity that challenges conventional norms. Wills’s muted colour palette evokes mood and atmosphere, while the attention to detail, from the subtle play of skin tones to the meticulous rendering of facial expressions, demonstrates an artist in control of his craft. The female form has been central to Dagmar Cyrulla’s oeuvre, a thematic tread that unveils the artist’s profound understanding of the human form, emotions, and the transient nature of existence. The artist navigates the complex terrain of womanhood, capturing vulnerability, resilience, and the fleeting notion of beauty. Each female protagonist is a storyteller conveying the narratives of profound emotional depth and self-discovery.
