The season of spring symbolizes rebirth, rejuvenation and renewal. In our natural environment, plants begin growth anew after the dormancy of winter.
Animals come out of their winter dormancy and begin their nesting and reproducing activities, and birds migrate poleward in response to the warmer temperatures.
In the history of art, spring is represented in its exuberance through vivid colour, such as Vincent van Gogh’s Blossoming Trees in Arles.
Others portray passionate emotion, young love and deep symbolism such as Pierre-Auguste Cot’s, Springtime and Botticelli’s La Primavera.
In Philosophy, Pablo Neruda echoed these sentiments in his famous comment, “You can cut all the flowers, but you cannot keep spring from coming.”
In Science, spring is considered the most important season because of the remarkable adaptations of wildlife and environment.
