Scott Redford is a Brisbane based artist and sometime curator and writer. He
was born on the Gold Coast in 1962. He has exhibited nationally since 1983
and internationally since 1997. In 2001/2002 Redford was the recipient of the
Australia Council Residency at the Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin. Major
exhibitions Redford has participated in include 2004: Australian Culture Now
at NGV Australia and ACMI, Melbourne; the 1993 and 1999 Australian
Perspecta at AGNSW; the 1996 Adelaide Biennale of Australian Art at AGSA;
Photographica Australis Taipei Art Museum, Taiwan and Asian tour;
Fieldwork: Australian Contemporary Art 1968-2002 at NGV Australia;
Blondies and Brownies: Aspects of Racism and Multiculturalism in the New
and Old Worlds at Aktionsforum Praterinsel, Munich. Recent major group
exhibitions that have included Redford’s work are HIGH TIDE: Currents in
Contemporary Australasian Art at Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw,
Poland and the Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius, Lithuania; the 2006
Adelaide Biennale of Australian Art; and Light Sensitive: Contemporary
Australian Photography from the Loti Smorgon Fund at the NGV Australia,
Melbourne; Optimism: Contemporary Australia GOMA, Brisbane 2008
Redford’s work has been the subject of seven publications, five
accompanying part survey exhibitions: “Surf or Die: Writings on the Art of
Scott Redford”, Art & Oceania Publications, Gold Coast 1996; “Scott Redford:
Guy in the Dunes”, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane 1997; and “1962: Scott
Redford Selected Works 1983-92”, University Art Museum, University of
Queensland, Brisbane 2003 and “Scott Redford: ½ Way: Collage Works
1994-2004” Griffith University, Brisbane 2004and “The Content Of These
Paintings Is Secret, Known Only To The People Of Surfers Paradise: Scott
Redford and the Gold Coast” 2005 published by the Gold Coast City Art
Gallery and Bricks Are published by the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane

Works by Scott Redford are held in the national Gallery of Australia; most
Australian State galleries; many regional galleries; the Museum of
Contemporary Art, Sydney; Parliament House, Canberra and numerous
