Fine Arts, Sydney is presenting a solo exhibition of work by Francis Upritchard, ‘Sydney Scallop’.
Francis Upritchard is an artist whose work draws from figurative sculpture, craft traditions and design, with references from literature and history.
This exhibition at the gallery brings together a collection of new and recent sculptures made in the range of forms both ancient and modern for which Upritchard’s work has become known: figures, vessels, urns, and creatures that are modelled, cast, and painted, with materials including bronze, glass, ceramic, thermoplastic, shibuichi, and bone.
Francis Upritchard lives and works in the United Kingdom, Italy, and New Zealand. She represented New Zealand at the 53rd Venice Biennale, and has made exhibitions at museums and institutions worldwide. Here at home, Upritchard’s most significant large-scale commission ‘Here Comes Everybody’ opened for the new Art Gallery of New South Wales building over summer.
This is Upritchard’s first exhibition with Fine Arts, Sydney.
