Opening on the 17th of November is Scotty So's newly commissioned installation "The floating bamboos hang across the southern court 浮空兩竹橫南閣 ".
At the core of So's installation is the wisdom imparted by his poet ancestor Su Shi —an assertion that no one can truly live without a bamboo garden. Culturally significant, the bamboo garden represents a vital setting for existence. Its tall, straight stems symbolise resilience, flexibility, and an upright character, reflecting the values of integrity, modesty, and strength in the face of adversity, yet bamboo's ability to bend without breaking in strong winds symbolises adaptability, prosperity and growth. In Scotty So's installation "The floating bamboos hang across the southern court 浮空兩竹橫南閣 '' bamboo is created with PVC pipes, deemed as unrefined and unattractive, becoming a poignant metaphor for modernity superseding and overshadowing the wisdom and philosophies of the past.
Please join us next Friday, 17 November from 6 - 8PM to celebrate the opening of Scotty So's latest exhibition The floating bamboos hang across the southern court 浮空兩竹橫南閣 and to witness a special performance by Scotty on the balconies of the Prince Centre.
