Opening next Friday at Passage is Sydney based artist Tané Andrews' installation The Held Breath. Please join us for the opening night celebrations of this poetic exhibition on June 9, from 6PM to 8PM.
Comprising four distinctive elements, highly polished stainless-steel armature, living monstera leaves, hand blown vases of water and the void, Andrews has created the 'dynamically static' – a motionless moment perfectly poised between two states, life and death. The delicate sculptural unity of the piece models a system, one of balance and the offering of nutrients, the void between the leaf and water appears sustainable, yet is terminal.
The Held Breath continues the artist's investigation into the interrelationships of the artificial and the natural, of humans and their environment. Andrews explores hefty themes such as life and death with a sense of harmony and detachment, acknowledging our cyclical and fluid existence.
This is the artist's second iteration of a previous work, Take A Deep Breath, commissioned by Murray Art Museum Albury in 2020.
