‘This exhibition celebrates Kingston’s interest in comic art. The backbone of this September show ‘Tricky Cad’, an anagram of Dick Tracy, was inspired by the mischievous work of Jess, a Bay Area artist who cleverly manipulated, with only scissors and glue, the profound and humorous art of Chester Gould. The exhibition also looks at Oldenberg, Steinberg and Otto Soglow who were comic artists, born in Europe but who emigrated to America and flourished. Kingston has made wooden 3D painted cutouts of games and comic tributes. Also included are the ‘Tricky Cad’ painting, prints, drawings, linocuts and curiosities.
