Trolley Talk is a collection of works, that uncovers the unheard conversations between unnoticed urban objects. The show explores the notion of slightly abstracting familiar objects, both disassembling and reassembling them in new contexts. The experience of colliding trolleys
is familiar to many, being both comedic and uncomfortable. However, once abstracted and physically interlocked they form a new single sculptural entity. A transformed bike rack can no longer function as such, and its new shape disrupts its ordinary role. While some of these objects are clearly identifiable, others only hint at a recognizable form through their materiality and shape. Once inside a gallery space all these objects take on a new value - as they no longer function as they once did.
Zoe Sinclair is a Naarm based sculpture artist studying at the Victorian College of the Arts. She is interested in using metal work to change the value, function, and context of found and re-worked objects. Her focus is exploring overlooked every-day items and markings, putting her own stamp on well-known industrial objects, while disturbing their functions and abstracting the familiar. Her aim is to give new life to these under-appreciated objects and push the boundaries of what we consider art.
