Alcaston Gallery is delighted to present Judy Holding’s most recent body of work in Woven: Connected.
Holding’s visual vocabulary of symbolic forms conveys a profound connection to the landscapes of regional Victoria and Murrumburr Country in Kakadu, in the Northern Territory.
The painterly lens through which Holding depicts the landscapes of Murrumburr Country is shaped and informed by her connection with Murrumburr Senior Traditional Owner, Jessie Alderson. Known to each other as Yabok, older sister, and Yagerr, younger sister, their enduring friendship is woven into the fabric of Holding's understanding and experience of stone Country in Kakadu, far north Australia.
These recent works are a celebration of times spent with my Bininj family, in particular Jessie Alderson (Senior Traditional Owner, Murrumburr Clan) over the last 45 years on their Country…With every visit, I have learned more and have been able to participate on a deeper level… a continuing and cumulative observation, and one which directly influences all my work.
