A solo show by Naarm based artist Scout Milsome.
This series of paintings is an imagining of past realms merged with the intimacy of first hand experience with subjects and objects.
Familiar muses are rendered in poses that are haunting but alluring. An echo of warm cackles across cold tiled floors.
Discarded items carry a memory of human wear.
Humour diminishes existentialism by bringing focus back home to familiar overlooked articles; buttons, beads, childhood toys.
The distorted shadows of people and objects reveal their truth. A leather boot holds the scars of wear and use. Muses are painted with honesty rather than perfectionism. The artist views experiences outside of contemporary ideals of form and the artwork may liberate viewers from also being bound.
The series holds a cold nostalgia existing outside of linear time. Forgotten relics find new life in an extant space. The passing of time is carried in the pocket of past lives.
