Scarlette Baccini is a visual artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. She began making schlock underground comics in the mid 2000s and producing music videos for her band Dear Plastic, before shifting her focus towards watercolour and gouache painting during the long lockdowns in 2020.
Her detailed works obsesses over the human form, with nods to the cartoonish body horror of her earlier work. Heavily influenced by her academic background in the biological sciences, Scarlette’s paintings are an expression of reverence for the vulnerability and resilience of biological things, celebrating paradoxes of our natural existence.
