Niagara Galleries is delighted to present Rick Amor’s latest exhibition entitled New paintings and watercolours. Rick Amor has pursued an independent vision, outside of strict art movements for five decades, continually developing and honing a set of motifs and subject matter in charged and impactful scenes. His latest work continues this, with watercolour and oil paintings completed between 2023 and 2024. Amor’s latest body of work includes familiar and contemporary images, often heavily influenced by art history’s predecessors, including Early Netherlandish traditions of art. The interiors, landscapes, urban environments and the single self-portrait featured in his latest exhibition allude to the passage of time: his compositions are littered with abandoned structures, some looming over the landscape, others seemingly crumbling into the soil upon which they stand. Amor’s sensitivity to light and atmosphere and his attention to material and process reveal an artist with an uncanny ability to communicate the psychological aspect of his subjects.
