Presented in association with Utopia Art Centre, Niagara Galleries is delighted to present new paintings by Angelina Pwerle (Ngale) at Sydney Contemporary 2024.
Now in her mid-eighties, Anmatyerr woman Angelina Pwerle is producing some of the most dynamic work of her career. These highly layered compositions include not only the meticulous repeating mark making for which she is well known, but also strokes made with the wooden skewers she has utilised for much of her career. These more gestural works evoke the flow of organic movement; reminiscent of tides, waves, scattered seeds, rain, flowers in bloom, the earth seen from above, or distant galaxies. These intricate works are both meditative and vital; rhythms of movement unfolding across the surface of each painting. As Angelina Pwerle’s artistic process is incredibly time consuming, she produces only a few works each year; we are privileged to bring together recent paintings for Sydney Contemporary 2024.
