’The image is the thing / the image precedes the thing’ considers the way images operate as a technology to inform and shape how we understand the world, as they are iterated through the human and technological. Here, the layers of the CMYK print stand in for layers of history and exist in spatial relation to Hyde Park, with each separation tracing one of the main axes through the park. Nevertheless, these relationships are fraught, as the image resists a stable viewpoint.
