Johnathon World Peace Bush: Faithful
Johnathon World Peace Bush applies earth pigments sourced from his home on the Tiwi Islands to animate and critically engage with the colonial experiences of his people. Without established agriculture on the islands, a significant part of this experience on the Tiwi's derived directly from the establishment of a Catholic Mission on Bathurst Island in 1911. Heavily influenced by Catholicism and Art History, these new works include those recently exhibited at the Armory Show New York, and a number of prizes in Australia.
Michael Cook: Fake
Shot in remote locations across the central Australian desert, Fake follows an Indigenous couple and their adopted child on a road trip through the outback. As we follow the story, the family who are decked out with luxury clothing and goods, gradually become more immersed in the ancient landscape. Inspired by Cook’s personal story (with a nod to past Gucci campaigns), the series reverses Cook’s own biography: he was adopted into a non-Indigenous family, and growing up traveled to remote communities with his parents who’s hobby was gold prospecting.
